Continued stigma that may prevent people from seeking and receiving needed treatment.
Only 13% of people with severe psychological distress think people are caring and sympathetic toward people with mental illness!
During our Addiction series it was noted that even at Extended Grace we struggle with the reality of stigma. At the same time that we encourage breaking down those barriers, we also put steps in place to protect anonymity. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all express our realities without fear? Only then will we realize that we are all LITERALLY in this together.
Suicide leads to over 44,000 deaths each year in the U.S. Stigma against people with mental illness is a major contributor to this unacceptably high mortality rate. Kitty uses heartbreaking true stories and scientific facts to help the audience understand ways to challenge their thinking and join the fight to reduce stigma and shame.
