A Message from our Campaign Co-Chairs
Dear Friends,
We are thrilled to be leading the Building Momentum campaign, a $1.5 million fundraising initiative to secure a new home for the Momentum Center here in Grand Haven. For years, the Momentum Center has been a vital resource for individuals in our community who are seeking support for mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and disabilities. Our dedicated team of volunteers and staff works tirelessly to provide a safe and welcoming space for individuals to connect with others, access resources, and find hope and healing.
As our community continues to grow, we have outgrown our current location and are in dire need of a larger space to accommodate our expanding programs and services. This new facility will enable us to serve more individuals in our community and provide them with the support they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives.
We invite you to join us in this important endeavor. With your support, we can ensure that the Momentum Center continues to be a beacon of hope for those seeking a place to feel connected and valued. Please join us in supporting this worthwhile endeavor and help us build momentum for a brighter future. Your contribution will make a significant impact on the lives of many in our community and help us create a stronger, more inclusive community for all.
Thank you for your support.

The Challenge
The Momentum Center has been renting a building at 714 Columbus Avenue in Grand Haven. This location has had significant challenges and limitations, including:
No handicap accessibility off Columbus Avenue.
Limited private office space.
No space for multiple activities/meetings scheduled at the same times.
No commercial kitchen.
No storage area.
Limits on how many people can gather safely on site.
The Opportunity
In our new space, we have the opportunity to improve the experience that our members and community have at the Momentum Center. The new space will:
Greatly increase our visibility and accessibility in the community.
Have flexible space with seating for up to 99 people with separate areas to offer different programs at the same time.
Have administrative space that is separate from program space.
Have a separate space for Board meetings, support groups, and other small gatherings.
Have a resource area.
Have a health-department-approved commercial kitchen.
Have a dedicated café community space.
Be an ADA compliant facility.
Have an outdoor courtyard space.
Free up almost $3,000 in monthly rental expenses that can be redirected to programming.
Give us ownership of our facility, allowing us to build equity in a long-term asset.
The New Space
We’ve entered into an agreement with the owners of the former Rendezvous Restaurant at 401 N. 7th Street, Grand Haven, to move into the building for use as the new Momentum Center. Now we have to raise the funds to purchase the building. The Rendezvous Restaurant was known as the place in this community where anybody could go and be welcomed. As the owner of this renovated property, we will continue and expand that tradition while also creating long-term financial stability for our organization. We will license the kitchen to US Café, which will operate The VOUS Café.

The Social Determinants of Mental Health
Our broader work emphasizes the social determinants of mental health so that together we can create a more equal and just society for everyone. These determinants include at the outermost level the social structures, policies, and economic systems that affect mental health outcomes for individuals.
These systemic and social issues affect a person’s physical environment and life experiences, which cause them to exhibit certain behaviors, which then affects their mental (and physical health). By viewing all these pieces together, we’re able to get a full picture of what affects mental health and can work to reduce risk factors and help individuals heal and thrive.
