Impactful
The Vous Cafe had its soft open a week ago. Several of our members are involved as employees or volunteers. On Friday when I stopped in for another over the top delicious meal prepared by Chef Stacie, our member Haley came over to tell me that she had waited on a table all by herself earlier that day. She was beaming as she told me, "I didn't know I had it in me."
I have been beyond impressed with the way Kaja has connected with our members and our community. This women sees nothing but potential - in every one and every situation. The whole operation of the Vous Cafe is perfectly aligned with our mission to create a community where every person is fully visible and connected. When people are fully seen, fully celebrated, fully appreciated, their lives are changed. What could possibly be more impactful than that?
We all have that capacity. The capacity to make a difference in the life of someone else. Truth be told, we make an impact every day, as beautifully demonstrated in Dar Williams song Echos. Sometimes by intention, sometimes not. We make an impact every day with what we do and with what we leave undone. With what we say and with what we left unsaid. What if we all became just a little more intentional about making a positive impact?
Tickets are available now for Homecoming with a Heart to take place in Holland on September 20. Like Prom with a Purpose that takes place in Grand Haven each May, Homecoming is more than a fundraiser. It is an opportunity for social integration. A time when people who don't normally spend time together have an opportunity to make eye contact with each other. It is an event where those who too often feel unseen know what it is to be fully visible and connected. How much impact can we make in the life of just one of those people?
Almost 100 people gathered at American Dunes on Thursday night to find the good in each other so that we can connect as human beings above the fray of political divisiveness. What happens to our community if each of those attendees shares their experience with 10 other people? What if they invite those people to the next conversation on Common Values Across Cultures? (Details shared as they become available.) How much impact can we make in the life of our community?
Chris Anderson, in his TED Talk It's Time for Infectious Generosity. Here's How shines a spotlight on people, like Kaja who have reached out beyond themselves to make an impact on others. If we all do that, can we make generosity go viral?
